Well, it took way too much cursing and teeth-nashing, but I finally got my Gallery script working. Now, if only I had more than three images (and maybe some of my own, natch) to fill it out...
Ah well. Maybe Louie needs to put on his shutterbug hat.

Well, where to start?
No preview yet. Sorry!.
Users will now be presented with a page to perform "admin" tasks equal to their rating, instead of having the links in the left navigation panel.
I built a new script/page for changing one's avatar. It loads so much faster it's almost scary. One caveat: it doesn't work in Safari, at all. So, Mac users, I will be working on an alternative. For now, I think the best alternative I can offer is an image list via email, and I will have to manually change it for you...
I am also trying to optimize the existing scripts, so if you run into bugs, please report them to me (admin at louiespeaks.com), and I will try to ferret out the cause.
I may also be tweaking the database soon, so if you have a page bookmarked, that link may or may not be broken sometime in the next month...
That is all. Carry on.

I seem to have most of the necessary scripts in place to run a more or less "full-featured" blog, although I do know that I am missing some important stuff (previews being at the top of my list). I also want to add functionality for comments to be edited and deleted as the original poster sees fit, so look for that.
Other than that, the only other "major" update will be the addition of more avatars. Yep. More colorful, shiny personal representations of one's digital persona...

Well, if you haven't been here in a while, you may have been shocked when the page you selected finished loading. As you can see, I (yet again) got the urge to change my site's CSS.
This theme will stick around for a while, I think. It's fairly bright, and I like the color palette a lot.
You may see some oddities here and there. Drop me a line if you do, and I'll fix it real quick-like.
As always, if you have any suggestions, use the mailto:

Thanks!

Okay!
Password reset is good-to-go! A form for submitting feature requests is live. I just need to figure out where to link to it from.
Also, astute observers may have noticed I changed my menu and blog icons. I think the new images have a lot more pop
, don't you?
I have also integrated the posting of comments into each entry's individual page. Two less clicks, and looks A TON better! [As usual, thank you, Karen, for your insight...]

Well, after a day spent primarily practicing my cuss words (sorry, ma!), I managed to get one of my higher priorities fixed. So, as of right now, here is you list of working actions:
- Select users can post Blog and News entries.
- All users can view and update their profiles.
- All users can change their personal avatars.
- All users can change their passwords.
- All users can post comments.
Not bad, to toot my own horn. I am still trying to figure out Previews and Lost Passwords, so I still have some work to do before I can start patting myself on the back...
Thank you for your patience. If you have any ideas for features you'd like to see, feel free to comment here or send me an email.
Note: I should have form up soon for idea submissions. Just need to work a few kinks out, first...

Well, it was not exactly fun to figure out, but comments are live on the blog side of this site. Haven't decided if I want to enable comments for News posts. I suppose it would be silly not to. I'm just not sure if I want to deal with figuring out how to adapt the current scripts to work with News items.
Ah, well...
Next up: Previews.
Yes, peoples, previews ARE in the works. Might just take a little longer than anticipated.
:)
[EDIT]: Comments are now live on News, as well...
News for February 26 2008 @ 11:44:00 pm EST
Today was a very adventurous day. First, I checked in with GoDaddy.com. Yep. My new domain is live. Second, I start looking at hosting. Hostmonster's offering for add-on domains looked a little too confusing, so I looked around...
Hmm. Looky here. GoDaddy will give me free hosting. Cool. Wait. Even better. I can pay per month for a basic plan. Yay.
Or so I thought.
GoDaddy has to have the worst user interface of any hosting company out there. I tried. Seriously, folks, I tried. But their interface nearly brought me to tears, I was so frustrated.
Then I remember. Hostmonster's interface is muy easy to use. Hmm. Maybe I give that add-on thing a try...
And, wouldn't you know it? Wasn't that difficult, at all. Need proof?
You're reading it.
Welcome to louiespeaks.com...

So, as of right now, the following actions are in a working
state:
- Sign up (register).
- Log in / Log out.
- Specific users can post News and Blog entries.
- All users can change their passwords.
- Blog and News pages are loaded dynamically.
I am currently working on password reset
and preview
scripts. Once those are working, I will be re-building the Gallery
page to load dynamically, as well.
So there you go.

If you are reading this, I have successfully made my first on-line News post. It's been about a month since I really started trying to switch this site from a static, hard-coded XHTML site to be a much more dynamic, PHP-driven, server-side-scripting work of art...
Okay, so maybe that is taking it too far. But, hey, this is my baby we're talking about here. Can't I be just a little proud?
